Spellman Files by Lisa Lutz
A friend recommended this to me as a light, very funny read. I agree. The heroine is the quirkiest character I have met since Stephanie Plum (a Janet Evanovich character). Isabel Spellman is 28 years old and a private investigator who works in the family business--Spellman Investigations. Isabel was a rebellious teen and is still acting like one in her twenties. It doesn't help that older brother David is Perfect. Younger sister, Rae (14 years younger!) is determined to be an investigator too whether her parents approve or not. For even more comic relief, their uncle Ray Spellman drinks, gambles and goes on "lost weekends". The novel is written to resemble a case file complete with footnotes. For example, Isabel refers to her boyfriends as "Ex-Boyfriend #9". The mystery factor is slight, but the laugh factor is off the charts! Read and enjoy.
