The Graveyard Book

by Neil Gaiman

Orphaned as a toddler, Nobody (Bod) Williams was taken in by a very unique group of people. In fact, they are people who have been dead for decades or centuries. But they love him. So he grows up with a graveyard for a home, ghosts for teachers, and a very quirky existence. As Bod grows up, he realizes how unusual his life among the dead is. Eventually, he starts to wonder if there might be something more out there for him and if he should leave the protection and security of the graveyard. He also wishes to find the man who murdered his parents and sister years ago.

The setting is eerie and surreal, but Bod is a fun character who lives an intriguing life. It is a tale of mystery, adventures and misadventures, friendship, and growing up. Neil Gaiman certainly knows how to spin a story.
